Gateway to Henry Coe State Park, the City of Morgan Hill is located along Highway 101 about 12 miles south of San Jose. Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve lies in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west of the city.

In August, 2009, the Board of Directors authorized the allocation of $184,000 for the purchase of a property on El Toro, the iconic hill that rises on the western edge of the city.
