Growing Our Urban Roots

Veggielution

About the Project

Veggielution's "Growing Our Urban Roots" is a pilot initiative designed to build long-term climate resilience and civic leadership in East San José. The Project begins with a three-month regenerative urban agriculture training where participants gain hands-on skills in soil health, water conservation, seed saving and climate-adaptive planning. Upon completion, graduates are certified as environmental ambassadors and supported to lead community workshops, serve on city and county advisory boards and promote locally driven resilience strategies throughout the remaining months of the project. The Project not only bridges gaps in environmental equity but also creates pathways into the green workforce and strengthens community-led leadership through shared action. Ultimately, Growing Our Urban Roots envisions a future where East San José not only adapts to climate change but models a community-owned approach to sustainability that continues beyond the pilot year.
