Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan

The Final ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan was adopted by the Board of Directors on September 28, 2023.

PLANNING FOR ACCESSIBILITY

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority is committed to ensuring Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance across our agency. The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan project will evaluate the Authority’s public-serving facilities, programs and services, and activities for compliance with accessibility standards, pursuant to the Federal ADA Title II and Section 504.

The Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan will recommend improvements to the Authority’s policies, practices, or procedures that deny or limit access and provide a phased approach for the removal of physical barriers at Authority preserves and other facilities.

The development and implementation of the ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan aligns with the Authority’s values of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access (JEDIA) in connecting people to nature. The outcomes of the Transition Plan will create more inclusive places and ways for the public to engage with the Authority.

The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan will accomplish the following:
  • Identify applicable accessibility regulations and guidelines
  • Identify physical barriers in the Authority’s facilities that limit the accessibility of individuals with disabilities
  • Describe methods and cost to make facilities accessible
  • Produce schedule and phasing for accessibility improvements and barrier removal
  • Review programs, services, and communications and make recommendations for ongoing improvement
  • Engage and seek feedback from the public and accessibility advocates
