Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan

PLANNING FOR ACCESSIBILITY

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority is committed to ensuring Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance across our agency. The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan project will evaluate the Authority’s public-serving facilities, programs and services, and communications for compliance with accessibility standards, pursuant to the Federal ADA Title II and Section 504.

The development of a Transition Plan includes a Self-Evaluation process to identify physical and other barriers limiting accessibility. The Transition Plan compiles the information gathered through the Self-Evaluation and provides a phased approach for attaining accessibility compliance through barrier removal and other improvements.

The development and implementation of the ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan aligns with the Authority’s values of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Access (JEDIA) in connecting people to nature. The outcomes of the Transition Plan will create more inclusive places and ways for the public to engage with the Authority.

The ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan will accomplish the following:
  • Identify applicable accessibility regulations and guidelines
  • Identify physical barriers in the Authority’s facilities that limit the accessibility of individuals with disabilities
  • Describe methods and cost to make facilities accessible
  • Produce schedule and phasing for accessibility improvements and barrier removal
  • Review programs, services, and communications and make recommendations for ongoing improvement
  • Engage and seek feedback from the public and accessibility advocates
