Projects Funded by Our Grant Programs

The Growing Resilience Project will support multiple organizations providing critical services to communities within the Open Space Authority's jurisdiction to augment the resilience of their organizations, sites and communities through native plants.

Amigos de Guadalupe's Summer Under the Sun program is a five-week, thematic, hands-on summer learning experience for K-8 students in East San José. This year's theme, Earthkeepers/ Guardianes del Planeta, focuses on environmental education, climate resilience and core academic skills through fun, place-based learning.

Ujima Adult & Family Services' series of collaborative community hikes increase the African community members' networks and teaches them how to interact with the protected spaces right in our backyard by removing barriers for the African community that have historically kept them out of enjoying outdoor spaces in their own communities.

Valley Verde's San José Food Sovereignty Project supports urban agriculture and environmental education in underserved neighborhoods by providing families intensive support to learn to grow fresh, healthy, culturally relevant produce.

Veggielution's "Growing Our Urban Roots" is a pilot initiative designed to build long-term climate resilience and civic leadership in East San José through regenerative urban agriculture training.

The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy's "Enhancing Community Climate Resilience through Nature-Based River Park Programs" is a two-year initiative that leverages partnerships and expertise to activate Guadalupe River Park as a hub for environmental education, public wellness and climate awareness.

Acterra's You(th) Be the Change: Growing Resilience project empowers middle school students in East San José through hands-on climate and food sustainability education.

The Open Space Authority helped to fund the City of San José’s project to construct a small community park at Midfield and Havana in East San José's Tropicana-Lanai neighborhood.
