Are you a nature enthusiast who enjoys meeting the public? Be an ambassador for the Open Space Authority and the natural environment.
Community festivals and fairs are a great place to connect OSA activities with families looking for free and healthy ways to have fun. Community Outreach Volunteers gain valuable communication skills and meet people of all ages excited to learn about the lands around them, places to hike and the species that share our valley.
Community Outreach Volunteer
Pumpkins In The Park
Put your "people skills" to work for open space preservation. Community Outreach Volunteers represent the Open Space Authority at community festivals, nature-themed fairs, and other public events. Activities include staffing the OSA display booth, answering questions, leading fun educational games and sharing information. Community Outreach events are primarily from September - November and March - June, on weekends. Being a Community Outreach Volunteer fits into just about anyone's schedule, with a minimum commitment of only 2 events per year. Shifts are 2-4 hours, depending on the length of the event.
The next free training for Community Outreach Volunteers will be in early Spring of 2011.
Speakers' Bureau
Experienced Community Outreach volunteers may be invited by the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to join the OSA Speakers' Bureau. These volunteers speak at other agencies, social clubs, schools, and professional organizations about the Open Space Authority and related conservation topics. Members of the Speakers' Bureau give an official OSA multi-media presentation and have the knowledge to answer questions and engage in conversations about the information presented. Public speaking techniques are taught by the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to new members of the Speakers' Bureau before they are booked for events.
